Court Permits All Lagos Assembly Members To Join Obasa’s Suit

  The Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja has ordered that all members of the Lagos House of Assembly be joined as parties in the suit filed by the disputed speaker, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa. Justice Yetunde Pinheiro gave this order after hearing the application filed by some members of the house seeking to be joined in the proceedings. Through their lawyers, Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Olu Daramola and Dada Awosika, members of the Assembly who were not initially listed as defendants in the suit filed by Obasa moved their applications seeking to be joined as parties. Hon. Obasa had approached the court to challenge his removal by at least 35 of his colleagues on January 13, 2025.   Nigerian influencer Sophia Egbueje allegedly exposed Burna Boy in a leaked 40-minute audio call. She claimed he promised her a Lamborghini after spending time together but never followed through.   Coote was dismissed by PGMOL in December following an investigation into a video that showed him making derogatory comments about Liverpool and their former manager Jurgen Klopp; UEFA has banned the ex-Premier League official for "bringing the sport of football into disrepute" Former Premier League referee David Coote has been banned by UEFA until June 30, 2026. UEFA said Coote brought "the sport of football, and UEFA in particular, into disrepute". The news comes after Coote was sacked by PGMOL in December after being "in serious breach of the provisions of his employment contract, with his position deemed untenable". Tinubu signs N54.99tn 2025 budget into law

  President Bola Tinubu has signed into law the N54.99tn 2025 Appropriation Bill. Tinubu signed the budget in the presence of principal officers of the National Assembly and other top government officials in a small ceremony in his office at the State House, Abuja, on Friday. The bill was passed by the two Chambers of the National Assembly on Thursday, February 13, after Tinubu asked for an increase from the proposed N49.7tn. The National Assembly approved a ₦54.99 trillion ($36.6bn) budget for the fiscal year, surpassing President Bola Tinubu’s initial proposal of ₦54.2tn. This increase reflects additional anticipated revenues from agencies such as the Federal Inland Revenue Service and the Nigeria Customs Service. Mourinho given four-match ban for comments after Istanbul derby

  Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho has been banned for four games and fined a total of £35,194 for comments made after Monday's game with local rivals Galatasaray. China refuses to recognize Sahel Alliance passports in Mali

  The Chinese Embassy in Mali has reportedly refused to recognize passports issued by the Alliance of Sahel States, AES, a regional bloc comprising Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso. The decision is seen as a significant setback for the ruling juntas of the three countries, who have been striving to gain international recognition for their alliance. Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert focused on the Lake Chad region, disclosed this on Wednesday in a post on his X handle.   The US has twice sided with Russia in votes at the United Nations to mark the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, highlighting the Trump administration's change of stance on the war.
